Heart of Light
Stella Zee’s paintings brim with light. The complexities of the heart are explored through the psychological dynamics of light. In her paintings light reveals form, carves space, frames illusion and asserts the relationship between mind and nature: by doing so we are invited to immerse ourselves in light. Forms fade and shimmer, the ground shifts imperceptibly, space draws near and then breaks away into deep chasms.
The painting document the point of contact where the phenomenon of the natural world meets and illuminates the inner world of the human spirit. Light not only parents form and space, but it breathes through the paint and canvas, endowing the paintings with life. This life emanates from the surfaces by a caressing light which is sensuous but certain, firm and paradoxically profound.
The painting becomes the portal. The mind is called upon to contemplate the access point of light and form. Stella Zee’s paintings set the stage for visual meditation, for launching the mind into the work of awareness while assured that the pursuit beckons by an inner necessity beyond question.
